The Rub’ al Khali, or Empty Quarter, is a big physique of sand in the centre of the Arabian desert. It is related to the An Nafud desert through the ad-Dahna desert, a hall of sandy terrain. It takes up most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula and contains a lot of Saudi Arabia, elements of Oman and the United Arab Emirates in addition to Yemen. It is about 650,000 sq km in area. It is coated with sand dunes. Much of the east of Yemen is taken up by the Rub’ al Khali. It not often rains in Yemen’s portion. Most of the desert is in Saudi Arabia.
